Rio+20

In June 2012, Rio de Janeiro will host the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. By evaluating the advancements since Rio92 and establishing goals for the next years, Rio+20 marks a new phase in which sustainable development assumes a central role in public policies of Rio de Janeiro State.

The moment represents a point of inflection for a new development standard throughout the world. In the transition for a global green economy, states and regions have a primordial role. The ability to implement more efficient solutions, along with the agility of governing structures, gives the regional and local governments the ability to lead this process towards a more sustainable economic model.

This is the agenda of the World Summit of States and Regions, to be held on June 19th. Other meetings will be fitting to present environmental, social, economic, and cultural policies which are already found in this new construction model in conjunction with the society. I wish everyone an excellent conference and may the sustainable development become a reality we have expected for decades.
